In this workshop we’ll be exploring sashiko and the Japanese art of mending. Sashiko is traditional Japanese embroidery technique that not only strengthens but intricately adorns fabric, bringing it new life. In Japan, fabric was continually mended over many generations creating a visual history of geometric stitches. Sashiko patterns are often sewn with off-white stitches on dark indigo fabric, so grab your your favorite denim—a piece that needs mending or something you’d just love to see adorned—and join us as we learn foundational sashiko stitches, chart out our designs and create beautiful, striking patterns.
